Anthony,
I use both a linksys router and a software firewall. I turned off the
firewall in my router cause I got tired of always having to go into its web
control page and adding more ports to forward. So I just sellected DMZ mode
wich effectively turns off the firewall for one computer on the router.
The firewall that I am using is outpost and I've been very happy with its
performance. If you'd like the install file, I can send it to you as an
attachment, its the free version, there is a pro version, but you don't
really need that.

Hi Anthony,
Well, with a cable modem you certainly need more protection than you do
with DSL. I still think hardware firewalls are the best way to
go. Software firewalls use up resources on your computer, and I suspect
they're more susceptible to hacking. I'm not sure I'd trust a firewall
that MicroSoft built, especially if it's already part of Windows XP.
