Diane,
Why not buy a good used one--like off eBay. I bought
mine less than $300 including shipping. It's a lot
cheaper, and you don't have to worry about killing the
warranty. also, check Linux.org for sellers of laptops
with Linux pre-installed. The following link is
exactly that...
