Friend's hard drive died. System is a Pavillion 7920. I put a new HD in was
able to FDISK & format from Recovery CD (Windows ME system). Ran the
Recovery and it wrote the files to the HD but on boot it says "Missing
Operating System". So what part of Recovery isn't working and how do you fix
it?
I've checked HP's site and the only thing you find related sends you in a
loop between Recovery & Replacing HD then if you get "Missing Operating
System" it tells you to check that the system recognizes the HD. Seems if
it's able to FDISK, format and write to the drive it does "see it".
The drive is set to Master and boot options in BIOS are set either to
CD/Floppy/HD or Floppy/HD with CD disabled. No disks in CD or floppy on
boot. I can see on boot the light flash on the HD then I see the error
message. Original drive was a Samsung 30G. New drive is WD 80G partioned to
30 G, 30G and 20G. No other HDs in system.
Thanks.
