Hi butch,

My advice, having owned both rigs now, would be to buy according to those
things which are important to you. If accessibility is uppermost, then buy
the TS-2K because the 746 Pro will not read menu choices and settings to
you. However, if receiver noise floor, quality of the DSP and audio
listening presence are the most important then go for the 746 Pro since it
is quite superior in these areas. Also, I feel the selectivity of the pro
is superior to the 2K. It used to be that I couldn't get within about
fifteen kHz of some of the locals on 6 when there was a band opening yet I
worked a much needed state only about 3 or 4 kHz away from a strong local
station about a month ago.

I hope this sheds some light and helps your decision making process. Good
luck and very 73.

Subject: kenwood ts 2000

I'm getting closer to buying the 2000. I'm also considering the icom. In
what little playing with the two rigs, I actually think the d s p in the
icom is a little better, but I've always had kenwoods, and I'm leaning
toward the 2000 as the voice synthesizer gives more info, menus and so
forth. Any thoughts please.

Also, does anyone have a good recommendation as to where to purchase, some
place where you can talk to a person and ask questions and not feel like
they want to get rid of you or just take your order and mmoney?

I called the local a e s store here in Vegas and asked about the computer
port. The guy said "we don't have any technitians here, you'll have to
call Kenwood." I said I had tried that but they were in training. He
said "yes, they'll be back next week." I then asked if anyone there could
help and he said "no, we don't have any techs here." And, I'm supposed to
buy from these guys. They are a little higher than some and I'd have to
pay 8 percent sales tax besides. I don't think so. I'm looking at the
2000 x with the 1.2 satellite module installed. Best quote I've found so
far is 2249.
Any thoughts or suggestions welcome.
