Recently there was a national American Dietetic Association conference
in San Antonio, Texas. There were a large number of dietitians here
that are active in promoting celiac disease awareness, and as a local
support group member I was asked where a small celiac group could eat
downtown. To make it more complicated, we needed to eat early and
quickly, in order to get to another meeting.
After discussing this with Perny Shea, Special Events Planner and Bruce
Auden, Chef/Owner of Biga on the Banks, arrangements were made with the
assistance of Melissa Ramos, Reservation Manager. They planned a custom
menu for ten of us, and we were able to qualify for their Early Dinner
Menu price. Not only that, they were kind enough to open thirty minutes
early so that we could be out of there in time for our next meeting.
As you can imagine, in a group of ten, there were some additional food
challenges to work around too.
Biga on the Banks was my first choice of a place for the group because
my family eats there frequently and they even keep a celiac file to
assist them in planning gluten free meals. We were all pleased with our
three-course meal for the evening, and were given several choices for
entree and dessert. Everything was exquisite, and beautifully prepared
and served.
If you live in the San Antonio area, or will be traveling there for
business or pleasure, I highly recommend that you try this award-winning
restaurant. Take a look at their website at
http://www.biga.com/. They are at 203 South Saint Mary's Street at
Market, San Antonio. Phone is 210 225-0722. This is right downtown
near the large hotels, and overlooking the San Antonio Riverwalk.
I know you will enjoy it as much as we did.
