You have a lot of questions! I will try to answer at least some of them.

If your new computer does not read the CDs from your old one, it could be a
hardware problem. Are the CDs readable on other computers besides your old
one?

If you want to shut down the computer, select the "Turn Off Computer"
option. You can choose to log off if you have more than one user of the
computer and you want to keep your configurations separate.

To transfer your favorites, you can copy your favorites folder from your old
computer (should be under Windows) and copy it to your new computer under
"Documents and Settings\your_user_name\Favorites".

If you have Norton Antivirus on the new computer, why do you want to delete
it? If, however, you want to use another program, you would need to
uninstall Norton and install the new program. Make sure the new program is
designed to work with XP.

A recovery disk only helps you get the computer going again. It does not
take the place of a backup. If your hard disk is corrupted for some reason,
you will lose everything on it and  a recovery disk will not help. Have a
good backup routine in place to prevent loss of important data. At the very
least, back up your own documents that you create. Programs can be
reinstalled, but your own creations cannot unless you do a backup.

I don't know what is causing your e-mail errors. You might give us more
detail on what program you are using for e-mail, and how you are connecting
to the e-mail server.
