My husband and I just returned from a conference in Chicago where we ate at
two wonderful celiac friendly restaurants. Vinci is a small Italian
restaurant at 1732 N. Halstad (312-266-1199) with superb food and service.
When I asked the waiter which items on the regular menu could be prepared
gluten-free, he rushed to provide me with a gluten-free menu. I almost
cried. I was so excited that I ate far more than I usually do. But, the
food was also unbelievably delicious. We also ate twice at the Joe's Stone
Crab, a seafood and steak restaurant at 60 East Grand Avenue (312-379-
5637). In both instances, the waiters were incredibly knowledgeable and
helpful, and there were many mouth-watering alternatives. Obviously, I have
no financial interest in either restaurant. But, I am quite envious of
those who have more opportunity to eat at these great places. By the way,
we made our reservations easily at OpenTable.com.
