Hi,

If you don't use the modem, does the computer freeze at any time?

I would think you need to answer the above question first, to answer
your question correctly.

But, yes a hardware based modem ($40)would be better than an win modem
($10).

Thanks and have a Great Day!

This is a Dell Dimension 4100, Windows ME, and a Lucent Win Modem. As
the modem disconnects from the phone line, the computer freezes about
1/2 the time. Running the Modem Test says everything is OK.

Would replacing the modem have a reasonably good chance of correcting
the problem? (I'm a computer dummy.)
