NUTRITION NEWS FOCUS
"Nutrition news is important. We help you understand it!"

Today's Topic: We Eat Too Much

The well documented doubling of obesity in the U.S. over the last
30 years has spawned numerous fad diets that emphasize one food group
over another. Government scientists now tell us we simply eat too
much of everything.

Men have increased calorie intake by almost 200 while women have
increased by more than 300 daily. It really doesn't matter if fat
consumption has dropped as a percentage of calories. Total fat and
carbohydrate consumption has increased. The report is available at
http://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/PDF/wk/mm5304.pdf on page 80.

HERE'S WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW: We are eating more for
many reasons. Increased portion size, more snacks and soft drinks,
and more food away from home. Being aware of your own food
indulgences is one way to curb excess intake.
