All this talk reminds of an experience I had around 1964, I was doing
interviews for my dissertation. I would fly too the cities of Texas, usually
on the weekends, and do my interviews. Whenever I went to Houston I stayed
with a former classmates who finished ahead of me and was working on human
factors in the capsule of the Mercury program. Off-handedly, I asked my
friend if he could get me an autographh from some of the astronauts. On my
next visit to Houston as we were going to the airport, Bob, hands me a
portfolio of 8 X 10 photos of all the men in Mercury and the "new guys" of
the Apollo program. At the time, my major professor was a real space buff,
so instead of keeping them, I gave them to that professor for browny points.
My son still gets siick when he hears that story. "Dad, do you know what
those photos would sell for now?"
