Hello
thanks again for all who've responded. I need to clarify certain
points though. At first, the 2 networked pc used to be working
perfectly . The problem have started after i had re-installed Win98SE
on a machine due to a crash. So, practically it can't be a hardware
configuration problem, unless the Ethernet card has gone bad itself.
But that would surprise me , cause Win98SE detects the 'Ethernet' Card
when i first re booted the machine after the new Win98SE re-install,
and i had to install its appropriate driver from disk.
To sum up everything again, i don't use any hub or router but it's
just a direct connection with the oversize phone looks connector. I'm
using a common name for both Workgroup. When i ping the other machine,
in Dos Mode, i just get a 'request timed out' response. I've double
checked other settings like, File & Printer Sharing, TCP/IP protocol
and make sure no firewall is being used . It might be useful to note I
access the Internet via dial-up.
Also, it may be useful to let you know that 'Ethernet Card' is bound
by the default TCP/IP protocol and no NetBuie is being used at all.
Another thing worth noted, is i've taken time to watch the 'blinking'
light on the network card on the back on my pc.. On one pc, the green
light blinks normally while on the other one , the green light blinks
more rapidly....
This network problem is getting me nuts and i don't really know where
to look now. Hope someone can shade up some light for me on this
problem..
