When I lived in Germany my landlady would feed her chickens cooked peels
from her vegetables in the winter. Those were the best eggs I ever
tasted..... She saved the peels. She fed them a huge variety of things. I
don't know why she cooked the peels, possibly mildew. I just never got
around to asking her. Oliva

As to food, chickens are omnivores, they will eat anything from meat to
bugs to fruit to seeds.
