LRY(Liberal Religious Youth) was not a drug cult, but the opposite. We made
our own rules against using drugs and alcohol during meetings or events and
followed them. Many of us, like the whole society, were gonzos, but not
there. I consider my time there well spent, in fact it was great. Speaking
of Festus, I remember working with him for his dad unloading bagged cement
at Cayuga Lumber. Part of that facility was an immense woodworking mill,
complete with planers, gang saws, band saws, ect , all operated by complex
leather belt and pulley system. I don't remember the power plant , but it
could have been water at one time. All gone when flood control project came
through.ctb

me high spirited and larger than life. Festus the one thing I remember in
particular is his freaking one night out on a back road about UFO's & the
buzzing of a power pole transformer. I think it was one of those nights the
'55 Ford PU was acting up. Regardless, I would not characterize anyone,
including myself, that I knew during that period as being particularly
sensible. Festus was someone that you could be with for hours and feel
comfortable as he was like a shadow along for the adventure. As to the
Journal article, I'm very aware at how the newspapers distort
