Lou is absolutely right about the Radio Shack amp. I managed to snag one for
a ridiculously low price just as they were going away, and will keep it for
that very purpose.

for 2 meters, MFJ also makes an "HT filter." It is powered by a 9 volt
battery, and switches out of the circuit for transmitting. I've never used
it, but, some locals have said it makes a noticeable difference in intermod.
I don't think they make one for 440, so, it would have to be physically
removed when using that band.

There are other companies who make similar, but non-powered filters, which
are intended for base or repeater usage.

If an ht is your only rig, and if intermod is limiting your ability to
operate on 2 meters, one of these filters may be a worthwhile investment.

Just remember that if you use the ht as a public service scanner, the filter
must be removed first.
