that opens the squelch when you press it,  in other words, if you think
there's something on the frequency you're listening to and you can't hear
it, you press that and it will open the squelch until you let it go.  Pretty
good feature I've found. All HT's have that I believe,  almost all anyway,
the newer ones anyway I've had a couple that don't.
