I just finished another fun-filled weekend in the CQ Worldwide CW DX
contest.  I need to clean up the log a little.  I was using CT
version 9.89, which is now free, with Vocal-Eyes in a DOS box under
Windows 98.

I broke last year's record, with 765 QSOs and 831,000 points.
Running a Drake t4XC barefoot, with dipoles for 80 and 40, and a
KT34XA 6-element tribander up 60 feet for 20 through 10 meters.  We
are supposed to be on the down slope of the sunspot cycle, but we had
pretty good conditions on 10 meters with openings to JA and all of
Europe.  In the mid afternoon there were stations from the ARctic,
including UW9C, RL3A, RU1A and a bunch of OH and SM stations on 10
and 15 CW.  Around 2000Z.  Pretty unusual stuff, and I think it
indicates that aurora was about ready to swallow the bands up once
again.

I am always interested in propagation.  Taking a cue from Popular
Communications, I've begun looking at
  http://prop.hfradio.org
as a source for up-to-date propagation information.  From there I
found a Windows version of the W6EL propagation program, and it works
nicely with Window-Eyes, as long as you don't try to use the maps.
