I think that your best place to start still would be to try to identify the
card you have. If this is a PCI/AGP card, take it out and see if there are
any identifying labels on it. If the main chip doesn't have a heatsink on
it, look to see what the marking are on it.
There are also some utilities that will give you some information on the
hardware installed on your system. I'm not sure how successful they will be
with this, but you might try SiSoft Sandra or Aida.

I have an unknown vga video adaptor card that displays only 16 colors. Does
