I don't remember exactly what model this was, maybe a little bit faster than
the one you were talking about, but I ran into trouble when trying to rely
upon a Plextor as the only drive in a system that I set up for a friend. In
particular, the Plextor would refuse to read (or occasionally be able to
read only after a very long spin up time) either of the two MSI driver CDs
that I had (one for the motherboard and the other for the video card). I
didn't have any trouble reading these MSI CDs using an older Toshiba DVD in
another computer. The Plextor handled all the other CDs that I tried just
fine, too; so I wrote it off as the Plextor having some pretty tight
tolerances for what it would work with in the way of CDs. I assumed that
these MSI driver CDs had been produced as cheaply as possible and were not
up to the Plextor's standards.

Subject: [PCBUILD] Plextor drive problems
Perhaps this is not necessarily a PROBLEM, but only a strange nuisance. I
recently ran into an audio CD that refused to be recognized in my Plextor
12/10/32A CDRW drive.
