Those units have a paper capacitor that *always* went south and resulted in
hum. It should be easily replaceable by anyone who knows their way around a
circuit.

speaking privately about the AFT tv radio ....

> I like the one here in my office that suddenly appeared. I had the =3D
chief engineer for KBSU radio recently go through it but there is still a =
=3D
little bit of 60hz hum at low volume. I could use a good tune up as I am =
=3D
not sure he peaked it while it was in his shop. I have an old Philco 5 =
=3D
tube I want him to work on as it is one of the bvest sounding am tabletop =
=3D
radios I have heard. It used to be my parent's alarm clock with an ac =3D
outlet in back for the coffee pot too.

=3D
face which I hope to restore some day as the radio does not work but the =
=3D
clock keeps on ticking. I wish I could say the same for the previous =3D
radio. It has a bit of hum but no clock anymore. I do recall using it to =
=3D
turn on a light in the morning as a secondary alarm for me while in high =
=3D
school All of this pales in comparison to the Magnavox hifi radio am sw =
=3D
with plug in fm (we never had it) phono aux system they boutgh in 1949. =
=3D
It had dual 6l6 finals I think in Ab configuration with electrostatic 12 =
=3D
inch speakers. Even without the cabinet (discarded in space saving =3D
efforts for move to Idaho, damn real mahogany) and it was part of my wires =
=3D
next of a bedroom with all sorts of other radio stuff throuwn in. Ah for =
=3D
good albums soft light wine or beer and a young lady on my knee 15 meters =
=3D
cw and the halicrafters 10 inch tv on ATV receive..... time to go home =3D
grin.
