If you subscribe the the Evolutionary Fitness discussion list ...

http://maelstrom.stjohns.edu/archives/evolutionary-fitness.html

... the old archives have a lot of material you'll find of interest.

In the meantime, see this page of Art de Vany's:

http://aris.ss.uci.edu/mbs/personnel/devany/evolutionaryfitness.html

for a brilliant genuinely Paleo synthesis of exercise and diet.

I couldn't _squat_ that weight Jim, but I dead lifted just 12lb less (185
kg) a couple of weeks ago and this morning did a few deads at 363lb (we
use kilograms here - that's 165 kg) My body weight is similar to yours.
Art de Vany says any man ought to be able to dead lift twice his body
weight. Art is in his mid-60s and I'm 54 and reckon that seems
reeasonable. Apparently some of the Europeans who pushed the Iroquois out
of their lands a couple of centuries ago tested a few and found they could
lift three times their body weight. They'd eat your 420 lb, Jim!
