chrif, your water stories put me in mind of michigan summer nights, us kids
lying on the dock, watching for shooting stars -- seems like an eternity
ago...

and if, after graduation, your kids look in ohio or kentucky or most any
other state west of new jersey (california excluded), they will find that a
very nice one bedroom apartment rents for about $600/mo, everything
included, which anyone making at least $12/hr can afford...
no need to rent one BEDROOM in an apartment you share with 6 other folks to
make ends meet!

of course, they will have to own a vehicle to live out there in cornfield,
usa, but then again, looking on the bright side, they won't have to shell
out another $400 or $500 a month to house IT!
(parking is a god-given right in the midwest, and the insurance is a heck
of a lot lower, too)
