Yeah, maybe a little bit better with something like a J-Pole. I also recall
an article from QST about four years ago by a ham in Ontario who designed a
very nice indoor two-meter antenna, I think it was a yagi that he could
mount in his attic.
Unfortunately, I don't have the article and that's all I can recall about
it. The magmounts need a counterpoise, so if you don't have a large metal
area, almost anything should work better.
Take my advice, I don't use it anyway.
