You're right there. I wouldn't hit it with full power of a legal limit amp
such as either of those you mentioned. You might very well do better with
some kind of meter reader such as the Fowl Gimmick which would go across
your meter in your tuner to get minimum reflected power. You will still
need something though to indicate maximum power out of the amp and I find
the meters on tuners are so reactive to changes that the audio swings all
over the place and is hard to follow. You might advertise on this and other
blind lists to see if anyone has one of the P-2000 cw meters or if the new
one is out yet. Those have a maximum rf out indicator as well as the
ability to tune your tuner for minimum swr. I've never had the control over
my station this little device has given me.
