Hi Dave,
Yes! I do it all the time. You have the screw thread biting into the brade.
The trick is to trim it close to the end of the outer insulation, just
leaving enough to turn back a tad and get caught in the threads as you screw
the plug onto the cable. If the thing locks solid, as it should do, you've
got a darned good connection to the outer. It saves so much messing about!
