Hi all,
Newbie to list.
My home PC (Win2K on a Gateway 350 Mhz/G6 with 256 MB RAM) is on the verge of a major hard drive failure (i.e. won't boot up, asks for "boot diskette at startup and nothing else). I suspect an error with the BIOS or the IO Controller. I have gone through the Win2K recovery console and it has been working well so far. Setup disks load OK and I can get where I need to be...until...the administration password part.
At this point in the recovery console process it is asking me for an administration password in order to continue with the recovery console. I have no idea what this is or how to get it. And most important, it won't let me continue without it! Can anyone help me? Is there a backdoor or some other method of getting around this?
I could really use your help if anyone has a second to respond. I'd prefer not to have to reformat for obvious reasons...
Thanks in advance.

P.S.
I found some software out there called Winternals ERD Commander 2003 that seems like it would help me out with this password issue. But at $199, I might as well by a new box. Does anyone know where I can find a demo version of this software?
