In addition to Jun Qian's great advice, is this a "port
powered" modem and if so are there other USB devices that
draw power from the same port?  I use a lot of USB devices
and have had to add powered hubs to get enough power for
some devices.

indication of
connnection with something.
Went to Device Manager which showed the modem as 'This
device is working
properly'
Up the list is 'USB Devices' which showed the dreaded
yellow ?.
The USB joystick is OK on both ports, as a test.
Uninstall, and re-install with Plug n Play didn't help at
all, but was
probably worse.
