Investigations require access to the witnesses. Histories of this
incident were written by both sides. But, to accuse these guys of
atrocities is a little over the top. There may have been a few
veterans of the French and Indian wars, but they would have been old
men, and perhaps a few veterans of later engagments on the frontier,
but for the most part they were young, inexperienced, on their own
ground and pissed off. And the brits were badly lead, overconfident
and ill prepared for police work.
There are some crucial differences between Mr. Lincoln and the
occuppant of the public housing unit at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue,
mostly in intellect, use of the language, the eagerness for war and
appreciation for the U.S. Constitution.
