The automobile has a strong relationship to historic preservation in
San Jose, California.  Our leaders like to demolish historic
buildings and contributing structures to make more parking lots, and
 new housing complexes in areas opened up by new and expanded roads.

If anyone knows of a historic site here not accessible by road, keep
it to yourself, or there will be a road and a parking lot there by
next year.

Someone desiring a useful career in preservation might consider
becoming not an architect but a litigator.  It appears that if our
elected public officials are not compelled by courts to comply with
the California Environmental Quality Act, our preservation
architects will soon be seeking other careers, and out here, that
would have to be Java programming.
