I have found the text scanning in Office XP to be very accurate. The
interface is relatively straight-forward, and the text comes in quite
cleanly, even from originals that have been written on. It does,
however, have some difficulty with text in italics, but I've seen that
with OmniPage as well.

The difference between OmniPage 11 and Office XP, for example, is that
OmniPage will try to preserve formatting, including columns, font
sizes, and more, while Office sends just the text into Microsoft Word.
You may have to rebuild tables, and reformat the document.

For the applications where I am transcribing documents, I tend to use
Office XP more than Omnipage, because I'm generally going to remove the
formatting anyway. but occasionally, when I want the formatting, as
with tabular data, you need a more robust program.

scanners come with what they call an OCR program, but they tend not to
be very accurate. Does Office XP's work with regular computer
documents? What about hand-outs, magazine articles, etc. ?
