Hi all,

My case is an aluminum, horizontal 19" rack mount unit that I picked up at
the electronics flea market at MIT. It has dual 12 volt case fans on the
front that draw through a filter. I really like the filter as it keeps the
internals very dust free. What I didn't like was the high fan noise level.
Since the fans connected directly to a power supply plug, I just swapped the
pins around on the fan plug so that the fans run off the 5 volt bus. The
result was that they run much quieter, in fact, the low pitch sound is
somewhat pleasing. Since there are two of them, there is still pleanty of
air flow through the case to keep things very cool at the lower fan speed.

Hope this is helpful,
Jeff - K1LE - CT - ><>
