Hi Jan,
        I have a Service Manual to the Panasonic KX-P1180 printer, which is
similar to your printer.
        I gave away the KX-P1180 several years ago, and haven't seen a KX-P1124
for awhile, but maybe I can help.
        My first rule of printers is that it's usually the cable.  Make sure
the cable you have will work on another computer; alternatively,
take a known-good cable and try it on your computer.  At least, if you
don't have access to another cable tonight, triple-check that the cable
is securely connected at both ends.
        Next, make sure your CMOS is set up correctly to handle the printer.
No ECC, No EPP.
        Try the "Self Test Print" if you can: Turn off your printer.  Then hold
your finger on the LF switch, and turn the printer on.  This should
print out the ASCII characters, followed by 1000 lines of printing in
draft mode (I'd turn it off after the first page, tho).
