Hi All,
Sun, 26 Jan 2003 09:25:12 +0900 Thomas Bridgeland [log in to unmask]
asked for research papers that substantiate Liz's claim that cancer
cells thrive on carbs but not fats. Here is a list of citations to
reports published in peer reviewed medical and scientific journals

1: Nebeling LC, Lerner E. Implementing a ketogenic diet based on
medium-chain triglyceride oil in pediatric patients with cancer. J Am
Diet Assoc. 1995 Jun;95(6):693-7.
2: Nebeling LC, Miraldi F, Shurin SB, Lerner E. Effects of a ketogenic
diet on tumor metabolism and nutritional status in pediatric oncology
patients: two case reports.J Am Coll Nutr. 1995 Apr;14(2):202-8.
3: Beck SA, Tisdale MJ. Effect of insulin on weight loss and tumour
growth in a cachexia model.Br J Cancer. 1989 May;59(5):677-81.
4: Tisdale MJ, Brennan RA. A comparison of long-chain triglycerides and
medium-chain triglycerides on weight loss and tumour size in a cachexia
model.Br J Cancer. 1988 Nov;58(5):580-3.
5: Fearon KC. Nutritional pharmacology in the treatment of neoplastic
disease.Baillieres Clin Gastroenterol. 1988 Oct;2(4):941-9.

Each of the above studies have shown similar reductions of tumor size,
and better body mass maintenance for cancer patients. Why the medical
community, particularly those who treat cancer patients, has not taken
this information to heart is just beyond me.

Best Wishes,
