Piggly-Wiggly was one of about three supermarket chains when I was growing
up in Lubbock. Their chubby little cartoon pig logo was everywhere on their
advertising. Most people went to Piggly Wiggly to collect S&H green stamps
with their purchases. Wednesday was double stamp day. When you collected
enough stamps, it was usually an all day affair to paste them into stamp
books and go to the redemption center to pick out toasters, crock pots, or
fondue sets. I think I got my first stereo (an eight track tape player)
that way.
