Hi!
I contacted a fellow member of the Triangle (NC) Gluten Free Group (he has
CD)
and works in Quality Assurance
for Eisai, the company who makes Aciphex.
I asked him to please clarify some points that were in the summary
"Confusion over GF status of drugs-aciphex/rabeprazole" from [log in to unmask]
on Feb 14, 2003.
He previously wrote this list about the gluten free status of Aciphex in
message
#36713 on Nov. 14, 2001; I asked him for help again.
His response (with additions I made from their websites):
Aciphex is gluten free.
Eisai discovered and developed Aciphex for certain gastrointestinal
disorders.
It is manufactured exclusively by Eisai in Research Triangle Park, North
Carolina.
Eisai and Janssen have a marketing, co-promotion and distribution partnership
for Aciphex.
(note: I went to the main website www.Eisai.com and found "Business Partners"
)
The active ingredient in Aciphex is rabeprazole.
There is no generic available.
Please contact Eisai Medical Services at 888-422-4743
for questions regarding any Eisai medication.
Also, please visit www.aciphex.com
and check the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) section for information
regarding the GF status
of Aciphex.
(Note: I went to the website. One of the FAQ's is: "Do Aciphex tablets
contain gluten?" ;
In addition, I saw they offer a $30 coupon to those who qualify-thanks
Eisai!)
Hope this helps....
heartburn and GERD can be so painful!
