I looked at the reviews of the running book and the main point mentioned is
the need for endurance for our ancestors.  This is usually the point at
which evolutionaryfitness, crossfit, and other multidimensional training
methods diverge from the mainstream.  Our ancestors were not marathoners but
rather much more akin to decathletes.  Strength, power, speed, stamina,
endurance, accuracy. All of the attributes were in serious demand for our
ancestors.  To me an intriguing point is that many of these attributes are
antagonistic.  If one specializes overly in one area other vital attributes
are minimized...perhaps to the point of making an individual non functional
for the rigors of hunter-gatherer life.  At www.crossfit.com the foundations
page describes the beautifully in the section talking about "fringe
athletes".
