I had been using the Microsoft Wireless Mouse Blue for about 8 months with
no trouble, but the mouse failed. That is when I bought the MX700 based on
good reviews. The first MX700 was not recognized on powerup when connected
to the USB port on the motherboard. It behaved this way on both computers
that I currently have at home. When connected to the PS2 (with adaptor), the
mouse was intermittent in being recognized on powerup. It was always
recognized when I unplugged it and plugged it back in on the USB port and
never gave problems in operation.

Thinking the original mouse was bad, I got a replacement. The new mouse
started up without a hitch, so I thought my problems were solved. However,
on the next powerup and every time after that it was not recognized just as
the first mouse. I installed the latest Logitech software, but it did not
solve the USB problem. When I tried the PS2 adaptor, this mouse works every
time. My problem with the mouse is now solved, but I still am curious as to
why it won't work in the USB port. Logitech support had no answers.

A curious note. I am running this on XP Pro. When the mouse was not
recognized in the USB port, I did not get any message that a mouse was
missing. There was no mouse in the device manager, however. Is this normal
for XP, or is this a symptom of the problem? Earlier versions of Windows
would give you an error message if no mouse was found.
