Hi Al, I've seen this particular error on many compaqs in my office and it
always meant a bad harddrive. But don't take my word for it, you may be
lucky, if you can, take this harddrive out of your Compaq and try running it
in another brand pc to see if it's still works or not. Do a search under
yahoo by typing in your error message and you'll see that compaqs for some
reason tend to be plagued by this problem, can't tell you why though. Sorry
that this reply wasn't more helpful.

Subject: Error message "1782 disk controller failure"

Hi all:I recently installed a small hard drive (2.5 gig) in a Compaq Deskpro
to be used for email and very light duties on the net, when I tried a reboot
it gave me the error message "1782 disk controller failure" and it only goes
thru its boot after it gives me a blue command button to press f1 to boot?
not sure what I've done wrong I installed windows 98 and all went smoothly,
any help would be apreciated. thanks again, I'll be looking at the posts but
you may email me directly at [log in to unmask]
