Hmmm... That's interesting.

When I first received this computer, I booted onto a floppy, ran
FDISK and partitioned the HDD. This worked fine. Disk integrity check
checked out.

It was only when I first went to install Win98 that it failed. 5%
into the format, the drive stopped responding. After that, the noise
occurred.

Is it possible differing versions of FDISK can cause this?
