I'm trying to add a PCI SoundBlaster 5.1 to my AMDK62-500 running Win XP on
a FIC 503+ Board with 192 MB RAM.
I use this machine to store and play MP3s on my entertainment system, as
well as network backup resource.
The old Sounblaster (ISA) played music well, but had a slight, annoying hum.
The new card seems to install perfectly and even has XP approved drivers,
but the best I can get from it is very faint, scratchy audio. I've tried
changing the speaker setting with the supplied software, but the only
response I get is "Center" no matter which speaker arrangement I select (2,
4, 5.1).
I've installed the card twice, and removed the ISA modem. which I no longer
use, all to no avail
It seems to me I had trouble trying to install a PCI Sound card in this box
a few years ago. Is there an issue with Via and AMD and PCI sound? Any other
ideas?
