The HP class action is about a part called a separator that failed in nearly all the LJ5,LJ6, and 1100 laserjets in one year when the warranty ended. HP is currently providing a free kit that replaces the separator. I ordered ten kits for my office, and it works. The problem is that when the separator fails those printers pull multiple sheets through the feeder to print one page.
They are still awaiting court approval of a settlement that will allow credits to buyers of the defective printers if they buy a newer HP laserjet. I think the biggest rebate will be about $70, but most are in the neighborhood of $20 to $30 on printers that cost at least $300.
