Correct me if I'm wrong, but my understanding is that even
raw vegetables and raw meat contain NaCl in them, so even
if you don't add any salt, you are still getting it from
the diet. Obviously our paleo ancestors managed to digest
their food, so they were getting an adequate amount of
sodium and chloride. Incidentally, not only chlorine but
actually sodium is a terribly necessary thing for us. Our
cells use sodium and potassium to regulate their water
content (sodium and potassium channels), so without either
of them we would die very quickly.
