Have there been any lab studies that confirm this sort of "detoxification" reaction?

I hear a lot of healthy eating experts speak of reactions like this, but have never seen any evidence that such symptoms are truly "toxins leaving the body".  Other experts say such symptoms may be due to temporary hormonal imbalance while the body readjusts, but again, no evidence.
