When I woke up today, about twelve hours after eating that yoghurt, I felt
feverish and heavy, and I had bad breath. During the day I felt a bit
nauseated. Right now I'm feeling better.
I'm sure there was something important in that yoghurt, something I needed
badly, something vital, probably one or both of the two types of bacteria
that it contains according to the manufacturer I contacted today. These
bacteria are called "streptococcus thermophil
us" and "lactobacillus
bulgaricus". But I'm also sure that the yoghurt contained detrimental
compounds, partly because of the fact that the milk that was used had been
ultra pasteurized.
I hope I don't get any more cravings for that yoghurt. If it would be
unpasteurized I wouldn't mind, but that is not the case.
I had probably somehow altered my gut flora. I had in fact eaten several
cans of shellfish in salted water during the past week or so. I had also
tried salty sauerkraut recently. A couple of days ago I tried salty
fermentet carrots. Perhaps all that salt had been too much, or perhaps it
had been the different species of bacteria in the fermented cabbage and
fermented carrots that drove my normal gut flora out of competition, or
both.
