Kat, I've seen one, and I've heard of some others. The one I've seen I
wouldn't recommend to an enemy. The one I've seen is the Daamco unit. A
friend had it on her chair, and the first time she tried it, it worked fine.
Then she took it off to use her manual chair normally, and when she tried to
put it back to use it again, the darn thing never worked properly again.
I've heard tell from other users of the unit that it was hard on pneumatic
tires and was a bitch in rain.

The others are newer, and if you want info on them, here's the scoop:
http://www.wheelchairjunkie.com/powerassist.html

I think you'll find this to be highly inforamtivve.

Subject: Question re: Manual Chair Power Assists

Hey All:

I have a question for you all. At the grand old age of 52, I'm finding
that my shoulders and hands are feeling the affects of overuse in wheeling
myself about in my manual wheelchair. I'm thinking of getting a power
assist and was wondering if anyone on this list uses one for their manual
chair. How does it work? Do you have to take it off and put it in your car
before folding up the chair or can the chair be folded with it in place?
How easy is it to transport? And how much did it cost? Would you
recommend it to another manual chair user?

Well, OK, that was more than one question but any feedback is welcome!

Thanks!

Kat
