I haven't had the symptoms you suffer from, but I have had my share of
tendonitis in the hips. Believe me, REST and lots of ibuprofen do WONDERS!
I'm 125 pounds and can take 800 mg (4 pills) every 8 hours. Give it a shot.
If you are concerned about a tear, take it easy.
