Hi Beth,
What I meant by "crutch" is simply that AA is a support, much in the same way
a good friend is a support in our daily lives.

And, no, In all my 15 years in the cult 99.0 of folks were not drunk,  though
I was accosted by the one in Oakland while he was drunk. My overwhelming
experience was that most of the folks were sober, getting natural high from
chanting, and, yes, many had psychological issues to deal with, our guru started
telling people to seek professional counseling.
