As many of you know, LAPD made the switch-over to all-digital on Monday
evening. A lot of other agencies have already don it, and most - if not
all - will be going digital in the not-too-distant future.
The latest rumors I've heard is that Uniden is "working on" a
digital-capable scanner that will receive "Project 25"-compliant
transmissions, but as of now it looks to be maybe a year away...and probably
well over $500.
PERHAPS economy-of-scale will bring that price down some...and I have little
doubt that Uniden and/or GRE or whoever would be spurred on when they see
the interest.
Anyway, I've found an existing "yahoogroup" that deals exactly with this
topic, called, appropriately enough, Digital-Scanning. You can go look at
the group's homepage at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/DIGITAL-SCANNING or
just go ahead and subscribe with the ol' blank email to

The group has "262 members" but I see only a couple posts a month. I bet we
can boost those numbers up a tad!
Nope, it's NOT my group!
