         Hi,
    Wayne K9DI es LD Patriot here.  I have read this thread so far and
having owned an IC 706MkII I would reccomend that your friend NOT buy it
unless it has the speech board which will read out freq and mode...but it
won't read anything in menus...a QSY'er would be invaluable too...
    I traded mine because I got fed up with all the darn menus...
