HI Bud. IN Windows-98 S E, you get to the volume control by pressing the
windows key, second key to the right of the space bar, and pressing p for
programs. You should be on Accessories, but if you aren't, press A and
either right arrow or enter, if it doesn't open. If you only have one A
in your list, you will already be in the accessories menu, so press E for
entertainment. That should open the entertainment menu and press V for
volume control. YOu will be in the playback volume settings, so you need
to press your Alt key and down arrow to properties and press enter. Tab
one time and you will hear "Adjust volume for playback." Down arrow one
time and you will hear Adjust Volume for Recording. Press enter and you
will be in the record properties of the volume control. Tab to the mic
volume and make sure it is turned up most, if not all of the way and tab
one more time to get to the check box to select it. With the sound
blaster, you must have this check box checked, as it selects the mike,
line input, etc. Some sound cards, allow you to mix your inputs, so in
that case, the check box is a mute, so you wouldn't want it checked. I
hope this makes sense. After checking the mic selection, you can alt F 4
out of the volume control and your mic will work, instead of your line
input. You will not hear the differents in your speakers, as you haven't
changed the selectiohn in playback, which is a mute check box, so you
will still hear sound from your line input through the speakers, but it
will not be recorded, other than being picked up by the microphone. Hope
this helps.
