What am I doing wrong? I went to the archives to do a search on
cortisol--am sure I remember some discussion about this in the past
year--but no hits returned. Seems like I remember something about low-carb
raising cortisol levels.
FYI the latest salivary hormone profile. These are "clean" tests after going
off all supplementation and allowing for what is supposed to be ample "wash
out" time.
Cortisol 8 am--33.66 high (ref range 5.0-23.0 nmol/L)
Lab comments 8 am sample confirmed by repeat analysis
Cortisol 12 midnight--2.09 (rr 0.80-4.70 nmol/L)
DHEA 8 am--0.276 (rr 0.750-2.500 nmol/L)
Estradiol 8 am-- 3.32 (rr 3.00-12.00 pmol/L)
Progesterone 8 am--651 (rr 50-325 pmol/L)
Testosterone 8 am--106.9 (rr 15.0-88.0)
I had the Progesterone & Testosterone followed up with serum tests:
Progesterone--0.146 (falls w/in follicular rr 0.123-1.70 ng/ml)
Testosterone --11 (rr 4-70 ng/dl)
Also had FSH tested but, dang, can't find that report just now. It was
32-33 point something--within menopausal range.
I generally feel fine, though have....ha ha...interrupted sleep w/hot
flashes & night sweats. And my weight that had been very stable has
steadily climbed upward since February, about 10 lbs. Arrgh! But I've also
had an incredible hunger, mostly at night and mostly for carbs. Never used
to have any problems eating straight paleo but have indulged off diet quite
a few times recently. Don't feel under any particular life stress to
account for elevated cortisol. Would appreciate any insight/advice on some
of these weird numbers and paleo nutritional advice. Hope this is not
off-topic.
